Calymene Trilobite
Calymene Trilobite
The Calymene trilobite is a genus of fossil trilobites that lived during the Ordovician Period , approximately 488 million years ago. Trilobites are marine arthropods, and the genus Calymene is one of the best known of those that inhabited the seabed at the time. This genus is characterized by a segmented body, divided into three longitudinal lobes, and a hard shell that could sometimes roll into a ball, a defensive characteristic found in several species of trilobites.
Calymene is typically associated with shallow marine environments and sandy or muddy seabeds, and its study provides insight into the marine fauna of the early Paleozoic era, particularly during the Ordovician, a period marked by significant diversification of marine life forms.
