These shells, a deep purplish-red color enhanced by delicate white patterns, belong to Pecten pallium, an emblematic species of the tropical seas of the Indo-Pacific region. Their name, derived from the Latin pallium ("cloak"), evokes the sumptuous and draped appearance of their valves, like a royal fabric.

These bivalves have a fan-shaped shell with regular radial ribs that give them strength and elegance. The geometric patterns near the hinge, alternating dark and light spots, are unique to the species and vary slightly from one individual to another, making each shell unique.
