Papilio memnon
Papilio memnon
*Papilio memnon* is nicknamed "the great Mormon". Belonging to the Papilionidae family, it is distinguished by its impressive wingspan, which can reach 15 cm, and by the graphic elegance of its wings. This species is famous for its sexual and mimetic dimorphism. The females exhibit an incredible variety of shapes and colors, some even mimicking toxic butterflies (*Papilio polytes*, *Pachliopta aristolochiae*) to deceive predators. The males, on the other hand, sport a more sober but perfectly symmetrical plumage. Viewed from its dorsal side, it reveals its elegance with its velvety black, light spots, and metallic blue reflections.
Presented in a hermetically sealed, glass-fronted box for hanging, it is enhanced by a black frame on a white background. Each specimen is carefully identified by a calligraphic label, mentioning its Latin name and origin. A brass plaque engraved with the Deyrolle name certifies the authenticity of this unique piece, from our collections.
