Le Papilio karna est un papillon reconnu pour ses reflets vert émeraude. Ses ailes supérieures, d’un vert sombre tacheté, contraste avec les bandes vert turquoise des ailes postérieures, ponctuées de taches rosées en forme d’ocelles. Comme beaucoup de papillons de la famille, ses couleurs sont dues à une iridescence structurale, phénomène optique qui diffracte la lumière.
Chaque spécimen est soigneusement identifié par une étiquette calligraphiée, mentionnant son nom latin et son origine. Une plaque en laiton gravée du nom de Deyrolle certifie l’authenticité de cette pièce.
