Papilio demodocus
Papilio demodocus
Also known as Vinson's Swallowtail or Citrus Swallowtail, Papilio demodocus has pale yellow wings dotted with graphic black, lace-like patterns. Widespread in sub-Saharan Africa, it is closely associated with citrus trees, accompanying their growth and transformation. Its apparent simplicity belies a remarkable capacity for adaptation, thanks in particular to its mimicry and hardiness.
Presented in a hermetically sealed glass-fronted box, it is enhanced by a white frame on a white background, highlighting the delicacy of its motifs. Each piece is carefully identified by a calligraphed label, indicating its Latin name and origin. A brass plaque engraved with the name Deyrolle certifies the authenticity of this unique piece, from our collections.
