Purple Martin (or Purple House Martin)

The incandescent plumage of this purplish kingfisher blends lilac, royal blue, orange, and yellow in an almost unreal harmony. With its coral beak and bright eyes, this small bird lives in the shade of the foliage, near streams where it hunts insects and small fish. Rarely seen, its colors rival those of butterflies and tropical flowers.
