Deyrolle plate n°744 of chicory is a detailed illustration of this herbaceous plant belonging to the Asteraceae (or Compositae) family. Chicory produces blue or purple flowers in flower heads, which are groups of tight inflorescences.

"Education through the eyes is the one that tires the intelligence the least, but this education can only have good results if the ideas that are engraved in the child's mind are of rigorous accuracy."

It was with this precise idea in mind that Émile Deyrolle, grandson of the founder of the House, passionately launched into the publication of educational boards around 1871. Lessons in objects, botany, entomology, zoology and more, many of the boards have been enthroned in classrooms since the 19th century!

Keen to perpetuate this heritage and still driven by this conviction, the Deyrolle house is now reissuing its educational boards for the enjoyment of young and old alike!
