Hypolimnas salmacis
Hypolimnas salmacis
Known as the blue diadem, Hypolimnas salmacis captivates us with its velvety black, punctuated by a royal blue halo and soft white spots. In this species, the males display this plumage to seduce and impress, while the females camouflage themselves in the foliage with more subdued colors. Beyond its elegance, this butterfly intrigues scientists because some of its populations are influenced by a bacterium (Wolbachia) that upsets the sex ratio.
Presented in a hermetically sealed, glass-fronted box for hanging, it is enhanced by a white frame on a white background. Each specimen is carefully identified with a calligraphic label, mentioning its Latin name and origin. A brass plate engraved with the Deyrolle name certifies the authenticity of this unique piece, from our collections.
