Formed from the sands of Fontainebleau, this gogotte (a type of rock formation) took shape nearly 30 million years ago, when silica-rich waters fused fine grains of sand together, giving rise to volumes with soft, cloud-like curves.

This rare piece, displayed on its pedestal, evokes both an abstract sculpture and an organic form. We could almost discern a face in it. Its texture and movement make it a sought-after work of natural art, admired by mineralogy enthusiasts and contemporary art collectors alike.

Louis XIV was particularly fond of gogottes, which he used to decorate the gardens of the Palace of Versailles.
