Hammerhead bat skull
Hammerhead bat skull
This hammerhead bat skull, an impressive representative of the Pteropodidae family from equatorial Africa, possesses a unique skeletal structure characterized by an enlarged rostrum, well-developed nasal cavities and sinuses, reflecting sexual dimorphism and the vocal resonance capabilities of males during courtship displays. The dentition, with its broad, relatively blunt molars, indicates a frugivorous diet, while the robust zygomatic arches and elongated cranium highlight a highly adapted respiratory and acoustic function. This specimen has been mounted on a base in our workshops, offering a presentation that is both faithful to the original and aesthetically remarkable.
