The photographic project is a long-term one, as far as I'm concerned. The oldest image in this series of twelve dates back almost thirty years. But I knew when I made it that it was destined to be seen one day, and in the company of others—to come. Like a bouquet of flowers, the image is only worth something if it can be offered. The other photographs came about randomly during travels and through the way one looks. That said, not simply "by chance," but also through patient will. Taking a photograph isn't that difficult: you just have to be patient, then, and honest, spontaneous, involved—nothing that requires great material sacrifices. The equipment doesn't matter. The location doesn't matter. All that matters is the search for truth through the gaze.
